Lanmeng Bathroom | Cold snap is here—here's your bathroom freeze-proofing guide!
2026-02-26
Cold fronts have swept across the country recently, bringing sudden temperature drops!
Snowfall has already occurred in most regions,
so everyone must stay warm and protect against the cold in the coming days.
At the same time,
how to maintain and use bathroom fixtures during winter
has become a growing concern for many.
Especially during extreme cold snaps,
products like toilets and faucets are prone to freezing and cracking.
Why do bathroom fixtures freeze and crack?

Under normal conditions, bathroom fixtures should operate with water temperatures above 4°C (39°F). If indoor temperatures drop below 0°C (32°F), water inside the fixtures can freeze. Ice expands to a larger volume than water, causing the ceramic body and valve core to crack and rupture. The same principle applies to frozen faucets and showerheads.
While faucet and angle valve freezing is considered an act of God, mastering these frost-proofing tips ensures your bathroom fixtures survive winter unscathed~

/ Faucets /

1. Drain Water
Once temperatures drop below freezing, faucets and pipes face bursting risks. For unoccupied homes, always shut off angle valves or main valves, then open faucet handles to drain residual water.
2. Insulate with Wrap
In cold conditions, wrap exposed outdoor pipes and faucets with plastic or similar materials. This provides effective insulation, preventing pipe bursts.
3. Drip-Feed Water
Before bed, place a bucket under the faucet and gently open it to keep water flowing. This prevents freezing inside the pipes.

/ Toilet /

1. Drain Water
When bathroom temperatures drop below freezing, water stored in the toilet tank may freeze, potentially expanding and cracking the tank. Close the water supply valve, flush the toilet to drain water, then use a sponge or cloth to absorb any remaining water in the trap.
2. Lowering the Freezing Point
For storage-type toilets, lower the freezing point by adding antifreeze or salt to the tank water.
3. Indoor Insulation
Maintain indoor warmth by closing doors and windows at night. Turn on the bathroom's indoor heating system to keep the temperature above freezing, preventing ice buildup.

Drain Standing Water
· For extended periods of non-use, shut off the main water valve and open the shower faucet to completely drain all water. Otherwise, frozen water may expand and rupture the water passage components, causing leaks.
· For handheld showerheads with a stop-water function, either drain the water inside or leave the showerhead in the open position. For showerheads equipped with a spray gun, also drain the water from the spray gun.
How to rescue frozen bathroom fixtures?

· If bathroom fixtures have frozen, wrap them in a towel and pour warm water over them to thaw. For indoor fixtures, raise the room temperature to thaw them. Never use boiling water, as sudden temperature changes can cause the product to crack.
Frozen-cracked bathroom fixtures not only shorten product lifespan but also pose safety hazards. Note that freezing damage is considered a natural disaster and falls outside the scope of national warranty coverage.
